Creating the Ultimate Pink Party

Creating the Ultimate Pink Party

Last week I teamed up with an amazing group of local creatives and inadvertently created a pink themed party! It all started when my friend Lisa did a photo shoot with an all pink flower bouquet that I made. It had me thinking about the color pink… It’s my favorite color. I asked all of my bridal party to wear pink. I purchase every pink kitchen appliance or tool that I find. I grow mainly pink flowers and I do all of this because pink makes me happy! It always has. I always made it known that pink was my favorite color, but I rarely wore pink. And I knew I couldn’t be alone in this. I wanted to share the joy of pink with others through my business

I was already scheduled to host a happy hour at a local boutique called Oh Pink! Party Shop. The theme just naturally began to fall into place. Of course Oh Pink! was full of cheerful pink gifts, so it would be fitting to build all pink bouquets, snack on pink desserts created by Mama Bear Bakery, and sip pink drinks. We agreed to turn the event into an all pink theme and I knew I wanted to add as many pink elements as possible. The date was scheduled for October 3rd, so it made sense to kick off the month by supporting an organization that benefited breast cancer. I chose Bright Pink because they empower women to know their risks for breast and ovarian cancer and manage their health.

My friend Angela is the creator of Paints the Roses Pink. After surviving an abusive marriage she created a place online for others to manage their lives after trauma. She has empowered to talk about my abuse, and I knew her words could be beneficial to so many others. Angela joined the event, introduced her mission, and brought along workbooks for everyone to take home.

Decorating the event was like decorating for a birthday party. I filled my light pink Mosser Glass bowls up with pink raspberry Ghiradelli chocolates and Good & Plenties. Another bowl was full of only pink starbursts. My thrifted clear pink cake platter was full of cardamom cookies and cranberry blondies. And the build you own bouquet bar was made of clear glass vases full of pink dahlias, zinnias, cosmos, statice, and scabiosa. I added pink glitter tulle, a large pink scarf that I thrifted and repurposed as a table cloth, and a string of pink tassels along the flower bar. Instead of using raffia to wrap up the bouquets, I used a pink striped blouse that I found at Salvation Army. I cut the blouse into strips to create a raw edge ribbon.

The event was a success. We raised money for a good cause, relaxed after a long day of work by being creative, and we all made new friends. This is why I love hosting happy hours so much! I can go out with my friends any day, but once and awhile its fun to add a little something to our outing. This time I added a little color. I always knew I loved pink, but it felt refreshing to fall in love with the color all over again.

TIPS FOR PLANNING A MONOCHROMATIC PARTY
-if it’s a color you will likely not use the décor of again, head to the thrift store! Look for tablecloths, platters, vases, and any fabric in that hue.
-thrifted shirts in the color scheme can be turned into ribbon to add to balloons, vases or tassels
-add candles, flowers, and balloons in that color
-the dollar store usually has plates and napkins in a birthday party aisle for a more affordable option
-look for all the candy and treats that are in your color theme. every little detail counts!
-ask your guests to wear your party’s color
