Backyard Garden Oasis

Backyard Garden Oasis

I’ve had this old claw food tub sitting in my garage for years. I had high ambitions of slicing it into a couch Holly Golightly style, but it just never happened. Then, I moved and found a way to move this heavy tub with me! And last summer I began dreaming of a backyard pool to relax in after a day of gardening. But they were almost impossible to get during the height of the pandemic. I suddenly had a new vision for the old claw foot tub…

The creation of the backyard garden oasis took a full weekend to create. I began with uncovering an even spot in the shade to put the tub. Turns out, our 100 year old house came with an overgrown patio. I ripped up lots of weeds, power washed the beautiful uniquely shaped stones and cleaned up the spaces between them. I filled the space with fresh pebbles. and trimmed up some low hanging branches.

Next, I placed the tub claws on their own stones so the weight would not sink it into the ground, power washed the tub and chose bold colors to paint it. Pink and gold! I used old plastic table cloths to block off sections while painting, found bendy drains to connect to the drain and added more pebbles where the water drains.

I added a board I found in my garage (who knows what it was for!) over the tub sides to create a shelf that can hold whatever book I’m reading and a glass of wine. I also added HC Company planters filled with lush green plants to the bush surrounding the tub! This transformation has been so special and given me so much motivation to get through a day of gardening in the summer heat!
